It’s ok to question everything for a minute. What someone or some company says is really good for you and if it really is. If they care about you or only their profit margin. If each ingredient can be replaced by something cheaper that studies have shown isn’t harmful in the right amount. If many animals were tested and died so they could save a buck on the cheapest ingredient that isn’t too harmful. Whatever that means.

Bare Bones Body Care was born from years of sensitive skin and allergic reactions. When I was younger, my skin started to react to the mainstream skin care brands and I was forced to switch to the “all natural” options available. Every time I read the label of a skin care product my brain went on ingredient overload. I never knew what I was putting on my body until I did the research when I quickly realized that an “all natural” label doesn’t usually refer to most the ingredients inside; in fact, the labels tend to mention just one or two of them. Bare Bones is about using only ingredients that will make your skin the happiest skin in all the land. Minimalism is the name of the game; most of the products have less than 5 ingredients, making each more important and beneficial to the balance and health of your delicate epidermis. Some elements are made from scratch, and others are sourced from organic and/or local suppliers. All products are vegan and not tested on animals. No dirty secrets or skeletons on our closet, just the good stuff.
All I wanted were skin care products that had as few ingredients as possible, did what they were supposed to and weren’t harmful to me in any way…so I started making my own. I make cleanser, toner, moisturizer and lip balm in my kitchen. Try some?

Beauty is…

What a world without hate may look like.

Some days, doing ‘the best we can’ may still fall short of what we would like to be able to do, but life isn’t perfect – on any front – and doing what we can with what we have is the most we should expect of ourselves or anyone else.

We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say, ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.

Fred Rogers, a.k.a. Mister Rogers

International Women’s Day

There are so many things I could say about this day, I love being a woman, and I especially love being the woman I am. This was made possible by many people in my life, but since comics were such a huge influence on me, I want to shout out one special lady in particular…Tank Girl.

Despite her solely illustrated nature, she taught me a lot about being myself. When I saw the movie as a kid, I thought, man that girl is tough. I’m want to be tough. Then I started reading the comic books (though some were inappropriate for my age) and I saw her be herself with no apologies over and over again. Standing up for her friends and for what she believed in, no matter what anyone else says. Doing what she knows she wants to do no matter how unconventional it may seem. She isn’t afraid of anything and isn’t looking for approval from anyone.

Tank Girl is just one of the many women that gave me the confidence and strength to be me. Thank you Tank Girl.
